ISO 20768:2018
VAPOUR PRODUCTS — ROUTINE ANALYTICAL VAPING MACHINE

ISO 20768:2018 is another standard developed by the International Organization for Standardization. Under its provisions, the technical requirements for analytical machines used in laboratories for drawing air through the devices with a purpose of aerosol generation and it`s subsequent analytical testing, are defined. Based on this document, testing carried out with the help of a routine analytical vaping machine is primarily intended for emissions characterization of the tested device for development and regulatory purposes, but not for human exposure and risk measurement.

Prior to standard testing conditions, parameters and requirements to the analytical vaping machine, the ISO 20768:2018 standard provides a definition of the notion “vapor products”. The standard defines them as “devices intended for human use, most of which contain electronic components which vaporize a liquid to generate an aerosol carried by the air drawn through the device by the user”. It also outlines the general types, features and functions of such products (e.g. single-piece, modular, rechargeable, disposable, refillable, containing a replaceable pre-filled cartridge etc).
